The purpose of the work is to comprehensively study functional and structural types, especially the use of stylistic and grammatical inversion in modern English. This goal determined the importance of solving a number of tasks:
1) to define the concept of inversion in linguistic science;
2) to study the functions and types of inversions that are used in modern English;
3) to investigate the features of the use of inversion in modern English on the material of English fiction.
The problem, which raises the issue of broken word order in modern English, is of great interest and is widely discussed by many linguists and translators. This allowed us to formulate the topic of this research: "Models of irregular word order in fiction".
