The basic idea of the present thesis is to develop a complex and well-structured framework to analyze:
•    theoretical and quantitative approaches of countries to the process of internationalization of the currency;
•    factors affecting the internationalization of the renminbi;
•    the expected future of the renminbi in the international market and its prospects.
The vital part of the framework is the analysis of China’s currency internationalization strategy since the nation is the leading exporter and has a great influence on the world arena.
The present thesis focuses on the strategic positioning of the renminbi in the global financial system. It assesses the development of the main factors influencing the internationalization of the renminbi, and the role of the currency of China in the world. Particular attention is paid to a study of the payment relations of Russia and China, as countries are strategic partners.
