The subject of the research is the translation of proper names, analysis of the translation of tropes in the work of J.K. Rowling "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone".
The aim of this work is to conduct a comparative analysis of metaphors, idioms and comparisons and to identify ways of translation used in the translation from English into Russian of the work of J.K. Rowling "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone".
In accordance with these objectives, the following tasks were set in the work:
•    to study theoretical material concerning the problems of translation of metaphor and comparison in English fiction;
•    determine stylistic means of expression and comparative style in the work of J.Rowling "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone";
